Welcome to my travel blog, Stray Nomad.
My name is Joe, I am an airline industry veteran having recently retired after 29 years, not by choice but because I was diagnosed with MS in 2015 and whilst I have conducted a normal life, kept working and did what I liked most, in the past 12 months my conditions have worsened, therefore I had to stop working in November and return back home to Sydney to take care of myself.
I have been fortunate with my job to travel to 78 countries and live in 8 different ones. I am a travel addict a true stray nomad and will continue to be one for as long as I can.
Here in my blog, I hope to share my experiences with people that like me are nomads by nature and love to travel, provide you with as many advises and tips to make your travel experience a memorable one.
Also, as a new disabled traveler I will provide you with much needed information ranging from Air, Sea, Rail and Road travel as well as hotels and city accessibility. When it comes to travel, people with disabilities get apprehensive about their trip being by air, sea, rail and road as well as the places that they wish to visit. Here I will share all my past and future experiences with you.
With my blog I aims to encourage and inspire others to travel explore and discover new places, particularly people with disabilities.
My postings will include general information’s as well as the following:
• How can I fly as a wheelchair user?
• Which hotels are the most accessible?
• What cities are the most wheelchair friendly around the world?
• What beaches are accessible for wheelchair users?
Why should you trust what I have to say?
I have worked in travel ever since I graduated from university and worked for 3 travel companies and 5 international airlines, I have been fortunate to travel extensively meeting many different people and make a lot of experiences. 4 years ago, I was diagnosed with MS and therefore my needs changed and started traveling as a disabled, gaining a strong understanding of what a disabled traveler needs.
My goal is to show you how to travel, where to travel, and most importantly, why travel particularly as a person with a disability.
When I was 14 years old, I took my first long trip by car from Italy to Germany at the age of 16 I went to Holland and France and at the age of 18 to Greece. Seeing the culture and trying the new foods fascinated me to find out more, that made me want to see so much more of this wonderful and mysterious world of ours.
From then on, I became a truly stray nomad and travel was something I had to do, that much so that after I graduated from University, I applied to get a job with the airline and that was when by journey started.
Now that I am retired from full-time working, I decided to launch Stray Nomad, because I wanted to stay connected with what I love most and share what I’ve learned throughout my journey with you.
I hope I will engage supporting followers that will accompany me through this new journey.
I hope that you enjoy this blog and if you have any questions for me, feel free to get in touch via the Contact page, send me a message on Facebook, or tweet me.
